Physical Rehabilitation
Valley Veterinary Hospital is now offering physical medicine/rehab appointments! If your pet is recovering from a recent injury or surgery, or has been showing signs of limping or discomfort that you feel would benefit from physical rehab please call us to set up an initial rehab evaluation.
What is physical rehabilitation medicine?
Medical rehabilitation can include multiple modalities for pain management as well as therapeutic exercises. In your pet’s physical rehabilitation medicine appointment we will assess your pet’s musculoskeletal system to determine what areas to target with pain control and therapeutic exercises both in clinic and at home. We will then work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan based on your pet’s individual needs and your goals for their lifestyle.
What does a physical rehabilitation appointment look like?
Multiple modalities will be used together in order to target pain and muscle strengthening. This may include any of the following:
- Photobiomodulation with a Class IV therapeutic laser (Laser Therapy)
- Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF)
- Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)
- Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
- Therapeutic Exercises
What should you expect from physical rehab?
The goal of physical rehabilitation is to offer pain relief and restore function post injury and to prevent further injuries from occurring.
When should physical rehab be considered?
Below are a few of the more common conditions that can benefit from physical rehabilitation:
Cranial Cruciate Rupture, Intervertebral Disc Disease, Luxating Patellas, Hip Dysplasia, Osteoarthritis, Lameness, General Aging, Overweight/Obesity, Orthopedic Pain, Post surgical, Neurologic Disorders/Paralysis

Physical Rehabilitation will not cure any disease or eliminate chronic issues completely but can help to alleviate future complications. Multiple sessions will be required for adequate response to treatments.
