How can my dog get Heartworm disease?
Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes. It takes just one bite from a mosquito harboring the organism that causes Heartworm disease to infect your dog.
What will Heartworms do to my dog?
Heartworms grow in the heart and lungs. The presence of the worms can cause a variety of serious health concerns, including severe heart and lung failure.
How can I tell if my dog is infected with heartworm disease?
A quick blood sample is all that is needed for a screening test to detect the presence of heartworms in your dog's bloodstream.
Is Heartworm disease treatable?
Yes, heartworm disease is treatable. Because treatment can pose health risks and requires several days hospitalization, we recommend prevention as the best way to combat Heartworm disease.
 
How do I prevent Heartworm disease?
Valley Veterinary Hospital offers two products for Heartworm prevention, Interceptor and Sentinel tablets. Both are easy to administer chewable tablets - only 1 tablet per month during the Mosquito season (May through October) is needed to prevent Heartworm disease.

The Heartworm preventative products also provide monthly deworming against hookworms, whipworms, and roundworms! The Sentinel product also provides monthly flea prevention.
